The all star game was this past week and it was epic. But it was not the only event that happened during the week. The 2021 MLB draft happened and saw all of the best college and high school players around get picked. There was also the Homerun derby.
The draft was great. The Number One pick was the Pirates and they picked Henry Davis. He is a catcher. Some steals of the draft in my opinion was the 4th pick by the Red Sox and they got Marcelo Mayer, the 11th pick by the Nationals and they got Brady House, the 16th pick by the Marlins and they got Kahlil Watson and the 21st pick by the Cubs and they got Jordan Wicks. I thought Mayer would possibly go One or Two in the Draft. I also thought Watson and House would both go top 10 and Wicks would go around 15th.
The Homerun derby in Coors Field was epic. A major upset in the derby was when Ohtani lost in the first round to Juan Soto. My pick to win was Joey Gallo but he got defeated by Trevor Story. In the end Pete Alonso took home his second HRD trophy as he beat Trey Mancini in the finals.
The All Star game was one sided most of the game. The American League won their 8th strait game. It came via great pitching by mostly every pitcher that pitched. Just a rocky Inning by Chris Bassit and one Homerun given up by Gregory Soto were the only runs given up. The All Star game MVP ended up being Vladimir Guerrero Jr because of his towering Homerun off of Corbin Burnes.
It was a great week for baseball just like it is every year!
